Officials of the Suvarnabhumi Airport have advised travellers to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flights, as an increased number of passengers is expected.
According to Vilaiwan Nadvilai, the director of Suvarnabhumi, the number of passengers going in and out the airport this holiday season is predicted to rise to 1.88 million, or to an average of 156,000 passengers per day, with 84% of them being foreigners. Last year, a total of 1.84 million travellers were handled by the airport.
Because of this increase, the airport have asked passengers to cooperate by arriving at the airport at least two hours prior to their flights. Service counters, which operates for 24 hours every day, were also set up at the airport for those who have questions or other concerns.
Thailand's Tourism Authority said that there will be around 21.8 million tourists this year. This figure is 13% higher compared to 2011, and is expected to generate revenue of approximately 930 billion baht, or US$30 billion, at the end of the year.
Despite the ongoing economic crises in the United States and Europe, the number of tourists for 2013 is expected to further increase by 10%, to a total of 24 million.
From January up to November 2012, the number of foreign passengers that entered the country went up by 13.57%, in reference to last year's 19.76 million.
