According to Kasikorn Research Center, a subsidiary of Kasikornbnk, low cost carriers (LCCs) will be adding more flight schedules to and from Thailand within the next two years.
An increase of 18% is expected to start since October 1 and is projected to further increase by more than 24% (31 million passengers) by the year 2015. This number of passengers is expected to enter the country via the six major airports operated by the Airports of Thailand Plc (Public Company Limited).
The emergence of new budget carriers has been attributed to the increase of in-bound travelers to Thailand, 92% of which are tourists and the rest being business related travelers. Due to this, new budget carriers are now competing in the flight market coupled with the increase in number of flights.
The increasing demand for new routes has also been displayed by the upcoming Asean Economic Community and this poses advantages for LCCs since as one KResearch analyst noted, some of these new routes are not included in full-service carriers.
This research analysis was based on four factors namely: improving marketing strategies of airlines, developments in tourism and economy of growing Asian tigers as well as the flight connections to countries in Southeast Asia.
