As a token of gratitude, Mr. Surachai rewarded the airport cleaner a hefty 50,000 baht for finding and returning his lost cash amounting to 100,000 baht. Surachai lost his cash money at the Suvarnabhumi Airport parking area.
Suvarnabhumi Airport Director, Sirot Duangrat disclosed the above incident on Wednesday.
He revealed that the airport cleaner who was rewarded for his good deed is a certain Mr. Boonserm Wilaipak, a cleaner for ISS Facility Service Co., which in turn is a service provider contracted by the airport.
It was told that on May 26, Mr. Boonserm was doing his usual cleaning chores at level 4 of the Zone 3 car park building when he discovered a wad of 1,000 baht bills lying on the car park floor.
Immediately after the discovery, he notified both his superior and personnel in charge of security regarding the incident. Subsequently, the cash was turned over to airport personnel in charge of Lost and Found items.
Police officers stationed at the Suvarnabhumi Airport were also notified about the incident.
The policemen helped locate the owner of the sum of money with the aid of footage of CCTV camera installed at the said parking zone. Upon scrutiny, the footage revealed a white Lexus vehicle parked in the same area where the cash was discovered.
The owner was traced with the aid of the vehicle's licence plate number which was also seen in the one of the footages. After a series of questioning, police later confirmed that the owner of the cash was indeed Mr. Surachai.
On June 2, Mr Surachai claimed the sum of money from the airport officials and subsequently shared half of it to the cleaner for his honest gesture.
