Following an increased demand of Internal Airport (HKT), the Airports Authority of Thailand (AoT) has agreed to a 6 billion Baht plan to make improvements to Phuket Airport, to commence in November 2011.

The move also comes in light of an increasing number of complaints about the airport regarding arrival and departure processes.

Plans include renovations of the toilets, the baggage carousel system, the check-in processes and the aircraft docking facilities.

Additionally, the smoking room is to be improved and the chairs in the departure lounges will be made more comfortable.

According to recent figures from the AoT, it is now possible to fly to 60 destinations in 23 countries, via 36 airlines directly from Phuket Airport.

Passenger arrivals and departures are constantly increasing, reaching over 7 million people in 2010. This increased by 11.97% in the six months between October 2010 and March 2011, when the number of flights increased by 13.94%.

During the same period, the number of International flights increased even more: by over 30%.
