At Suvarnabhumi airport, traffic has been growing over the past two weeks and is expected to increase further until first quarter of 2016. Peak season for the travel and tourism sector has just ushered in and is expected to boost traffic by 20% up until March next year.
Meanwhile, a year-on-year growth of 18% is expected as close to 25 million travelers are projected to use the airport during the same period.
Airports of Thailand (AoT), which manages the airport along with five others foresee that aircraft arrivals/departures will also grow by 19%.
Presently, there are more than a hundred airline companies using Suvarnabhumi airport and six more airlines will be entering the scene in the coming months.
During the next six months, it is projected that domestic passengers will grow to 4.1 million while international passengers will go up to 20.6 million. These represent a 34% and 15% growth respectively.
Sirote Duangratan, the airport's GM revealed that people from Singapore and Hong Kong will comprise the bulk of international passengers arriving at the airport.
Meanwhile, three of the six new entrants at Suvarnabhumi airport consist of Mega Maldives Airlines, Chongqing Airlines, and Eurowings of Germany.
Of these three Mega Maldives has more flights to the airport with four flights per week. Chongqing follows with three flights per week and finally Eurowings at two flights per week.
The growing traffic and projected traffic scenarios at Suvarnabhumi airport signals a continuing growth in Thailand's tourism sector that was once rocked by a debilitating coup.
