Many people are skeptical about the readiness of the recently refurbished Don Mueang Airport to handle international flights starting October 1 this year. But officials from Airports Authority of Thailand are quite positive and confirmed their 100 percent readiness to carry out the task.

The apprehension of many people arose from dozens of issues that have saddled the airport for its capacity to function in full to serve international flights which are expected to begin on Monday. During last week's announcement, airport officials, however, revealed that they 60 of those issues have already been addressed and resolved (out of 98 raised).

The government wants all the low-cost carriers to move their operations from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the older Don Mueang Airport to ease congestion of the new airport as it has been operating more than its capacity already since 2010, breaking its own one-airport policy. However, only few airlines heeded the call and continue using Suvarnabhumi Airport.

By October 1, all airlines of the AirAsia Group will start operating from Terminal 1 at Don Mueang Airport. Aside from Thai Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia and the parent Malaysia-based AirAsia belong to the group. Other low-cost carriers operating from Don Mueang include Nok Air, Nok Mini, Orient Thai Airlines, P.C. Air and Solar Air.
