The aircraft, flight FD3188, was about to land at the domestic airport from Bangkok on Thursday morning, about 30 minutes past seven, when it met the incident.
As a result, the plane was not able to leave on time on its return leg back to Bangkok after its left engine suffered a slight damage due to the impact.
Fortunately enough, the pilot managed to land the plane safely without causing problem to its passengers and crew on board
The 175 passengers on the plane's return leg were forced to wait for more than 2 hours at the airport until repairs to the damaged turbine was done.
The latest incident involving wayward birds and aircraft is the third for the carrier and third for Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport this year alone.
On June 11, the left wing of an AirAsia aircraft was partly damaged when it hit a bird during its descent at Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport. Barely two months later, on August 5, another plane by Thai AirAsia accidentally hit a flock of birds while taking off from the same airport causing it to make an emergency landing at nearby Phuket Airport shortly after.
A Nok Air aircraft also figured in a similar incident on August 31 as it took off from the airport that it had to make an emergency landing at Surat Thani airport.
Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport is located close to swamps where wading birds such as egrets feed and breed each year.
The airport management has conducted egg hunting every month in the swamps to curb the population of egrets in the airport vicinity. The measure, however, has not been successful as bird strikes continue to occur.
