Before the end of this year, Thai AirAsia will commence its direct service between the Thai capital and the Chinese city of Kunming.
The once-daily flight will operate from the airline's hub at Don Mueang Airport to Yunnan provincial capital of Kunming.
On November 15, 2013, AirAsia will begin the new service giving air travelers between the two cities a chance to sample the rich cultural and historical heritage of both cities.
An added bonus await Thai travelers to Kunming as the airline offers promotional one-way tickets from as low as THB1,690, inclusive of tax and other fees. Travelers can book these promotional tickets until September 22, 2013 only for travel between November 15, 2013 and August 5, 2014. Terms and conditions will apply.
According to Tassapon Bijleveld, Thai AirAsia CEO, their focus in the immediate future will still be on China for their route expansions. The executive considers China as their key market for its growth.
The local subsidiary of the Malaysia-based AirAsia operates a total of 119 flights per week to Mainland China via 10 routes originating from various points in Thailand.
Its passenger load to China is said to be 85% on average per year.
Kunming is the largest city and the capital of Yunnan province located in southwestern China. It is the center of trade and commerce as well as the political, communications and cultural center of Yunnan. It is also the major gateway of China to Southeast Asia.
The city sprawls across an area of not less than 2,622 square kilometers teeming with popular tourist attractions such as pagodas, museums and ancient temples dating back to Tang Dynasty.
Kunming makes it easy for tourists to travel around the city with its good to excellent transport networks of buses, trains and taxis.
