AirAsia has launched a regular flight from Bangkok to Changsa in Hunan in South-Central China. The flights have already started operated in January and the route will be flown once a day.
AirAsia already offers 13 routes to 9 destinations from Thailand to China with 4 flights daily to Macau from Bangkok. The Thai capital is also connected to Hong Kong with 3 flights a day, Chongqing and Wuhan with 2 flights daily and a flight to Guangzhou, Shenzen, Xi'an, Kunming and now to Chungsa. It also operates flights from Chang Mai with a flight daily to Macau and Hong Kong and a new route coming in on the 21st of February to Hangzhou. Phuket to Hong Kong can also be flown on the company's flights once daily.
With more business and leisure travelers flying to China, Chief Operating Officer of AirAsia, Tassapon Bijleveld has announced that "We are confident in the potential of the China market in the long run. Changsha is AirAsia's 9th destination in China, and the inaugural flight had a load factor of over 70%, which is an acceptable number considering Thailand's current circumstances."
Changsa offers a host of tourist destinations including the World Heritage Jang Jia Jie Park, where the record grossing film, Avatar was filmed. The more adventurous can also take a ride of the cable car which takes tourists through the huge sand stone towers that mark the start landscape. For those wishing for more culture, there is also the town of Fenghuang which still retains a lot of architecture and culture from hundreds of years ago.
Similarly, Thailand has become a hotspot for Chinese tourists and is one of the top destinations for Chinese tourists as evidenced by the fact that 80% of the passengers on the first flight were Chinese tourists.
"Apart from Bangkok, AirAsia has also been promoting other destinations in the Kingdom to Chinese visitors such as Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi while also recommending its Fly-Thru service, which allows for quick and convenient connections to even more destinations via Bangkok Don Mueang Airport," said Mr. Tassapon.
