Thai Airways International recently introduced Thai Smile, its budget and younger sister airline, to the Indian market. THAI has been continuously serving India since 1960.

The introduction of Thai Smile to Indian travelers signaled the commencement of its direct service between three points in India and two cities in Thailand. The inaugural flights from two Indian cities of Delhi and Mumbai to the resort island of Phuket in Thailand commenced on March 31, 2013. Following thereafter, a two-times-weekly service from Ahmedabad to Bangkok was also launched.

The low-cost airline initially launched a twice-weekly service each from Delhi and Mumbai cities to Phuket and the Ahmedabad to Bangkok using an Airbus A320 aircraft.

Though Thai Smile operates as a low-cost airline, in direct competition to other budget carriers along the routes it is serving, it is unique in its approach as it offers service and products most full-service airlines offer, save for in-flight entertainment.

Ravi Talwar, THAI's India Area Sales Manager, admitted that the Indian market is important to Thai Smile prompting them to open up more routes from Indian cities to major Thai destinations. Moreover, he revealed that the airline will possibly expand its route network between Thailand and India in the future as they find the potentials of Amritsar, Chennai, Chandigarh, and Punjab as possible markets.

Thai Smile flights from Delhi to Phuket leave on Tuesdays and Fridays at 0155 hours and arrive at the Thai resort island at 0755 hours.
