Thai Airways Takes Delivery Its First B787

The delivery forms part of the flag carrier's refleeting program which has started this year until 2017, when most of its older aircraft are retired.
The jetliner will immediately take its inaugural commercial operations with the state-owned carrier plying the domestic routes before it gets deployed for its regular international route, the Bangkok-Perth on September 1st.
The Dreamliner, as it is popularly called, touched down on the morning of June 29 at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in preparation for its July 8 inaugural service on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai route. It will serve the route on a three-times daily frequency until August 31. The domestic run is part of the intensive training the plane's flight crew is required to undergo for the next-generation jetliner.
Also on schedule is a once-daily 23-day Bangkok-Manila run which operates from August 8 until August 31.
Travelers can now start booking the airliner's regular Bangkok-Perth service which will commence on September 1, bearing the designated flight code TG483/484.
Another regular service for the Dreamliner is the Bangkok-Tokyo route which will start before the end of this year.
The flag carrier is expecting to take delivery a total of four B787s before the year ends and another two by 2015, to complete its acquisition of six aircraft it leased from ILFC. A pair of the larger version, B787-9, will join the Thai Airways' fleet of the fuel-efficient Dreamliner family in 2017.
All B787s will be configured in a two-class layout, 24 seats in the Royal Silk business class and 240 in the economy, all of which will sport a new design.
The inaugural Bangkok-Perth service will mark the airliner's debut in Perth, ahead of the similar Dreamliner service by Air New Zealand for its Auckland-Perth route.
