Thai AirAsia is upbeat in its domestic operations with the introduction of yet another route from its Bangkok hub at Don Mueand Airport to Khon Kaen.
September 3, 2013. Starting October 28 this year, the local subsidiary of the budget leader Malaysia-based AirAsia Bhd. will commence its direct service to the capital of the northeastern province of the same name. The twice-daily service will be a good addition to the airline's growing domestic network.
The Bangkok-Khon Kaen service is a response to travelers to and from the province who clamor for an alternative airline on this route to possibly break the monopoly of Thai Airways and bring down air travel cost. According to the airline's CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld, both private and public sectors are calling for another airline operator to mount flights to the city so that they will have options.
Travelers will be very glad to know that another carrier, a budget airline at that, is giving them other option on which flights to take and what airline to patronize.
Thai AirAsia will certainly give Thai Airways a run for its money when it commences service in October 28. The low-cost airline will have a clear advantage over the full-service airline with its low-cost tickets that is seen to draw customers away from the latter airline.
The budget airline will use new planes for this route as it currently embarks on its expansion program. It is expected to take delivery of five new aircraft before the end of this year. The new acquisition will bring its fleet to a total of 35 aircraft by then.
