There had been quite a few instances before where airlines ran into trouble with their ad campaigns that didn't suit the taste of the general public and other groups. Air New Zealand, Ryan Air are just a few examples of airlines who did just that.

Recently, the low-cost carrier, VietJet Air, came to the headlines when a lingerie model, Ngoc Trinh, posted a few photos of herself clad only in a skimpy number on her FB page complete with a caption that reads: "Just finished shooting promo photos for VietJet Air for 12 hours nonstop from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.'

The photos showed the model herself and several other girls in similar attire. There were photos showing the girls stuffing overhead bins and other usual stuff that flight attendants do inside the cabin. The indecent photos went viral on Facebook and became the fodder of social media discussions drawing negative comments.

Netizens went on to lambaste VietJet Air and they accused the airline of using media stunts that depict women as sex objects to sell tickets. The photos have since been taken off from her page.

VietJet Air quickly came to the rescue and denied the photos are part of the official ad campaign. VietJet director for development, Vu Pham Nguyen Tung, admitted that they were conducting trial shoots for ad campaign, but denied allegations that those photos will be used for their ad campaign.

He further denied the insinuations that the photos were merely a publicity stunt to get noticed.

The low-cost airline had brushed with the country's Civil Aviation Authority before following a leaked video on skimpy-clad flight attendants performing a Hawaiian dance when the airline was still preparing to launch its inaugural operations. It was fined $1,000 for that sleazy stunt as a result.

The airline seems to have a taste for sleazy marketing stunts. Its YouTube channel, in fact, features a number of videos of women sporting a bikini as they dance suggestively to the equally sultry music inside an airplane.

VietJet Air was founded in 2007 but commenced commercial operations in 2011. Currently, it operates flights to 16 destinations, 4 of which are international, from its twin hub in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. It has a fleet of 16 leased A320-200 aircraft.
