In response to media reports that the Thai Airways labor union has plans to strike on Monday, Chokechai Panyayong, the acting president of the company has said that there is no such plan and all workers will be at work as usual.

Union president, Damrong Waikanee had previously indicated that the union members would be part of a "Shutdown TG" operation from Monday to stop the airline from sinking any further. Waikanee also wanted to apologize to the customers who would be affected by the planned strike and the ensuing flight delays and cancellations.

The strike was planned as a measure to force the ousting of Panyayong and the chairman of the Thai national carrier, Ampon Kittiampon.

The union was also irked by the legal action taken by the airline's management against four staff members including Waikanee and Jamsri Sukchokerat, the former union leader. The legal action came after they demanded the airline increase pay rates for staff last January. Although an agreement was reached with management to stop any legal actions, the proceedings were going ahead in the labor court.

However, the management was quick to quell these rumors of a strike, saying that staff in all departments were going to be at work on Monday and all flights and services would run as per usual schedules.

This news comes at a time of political unrest in Thailand with many carriers cutting services to the country in response to the falling demand of travel to and from the country. Thai Airways has also adjusted its schedules accordingly but with Mr. Chokechai claiming that the adjustment in schedules coming as a result of changing summer and winter schedules and not due to the political unrest.
