Kan Air is preparing a move that will see it start delivering its services from U-tapao airport in Rayong province to the rest of Thailand.

The Thai commuter airline is lining up a schedule that seeks to start providing commercial flights within the Eastern Seaboard airport which is owned by the Royal Thai Navy. This move is meant to also touch on four other cities- Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Chiang Mai and Bangkok's Don Mueang airport.

This is set to take place on the 10th of April.

Kan Air is preparing a move to open up a new phase for the U-tapao airport which is located 190 kilometres in the area southeast of Bangkok. This area is located between Chon Buri's Sattahip district and Ban Chang district in Rayong.

The airport has very low usage with Bangkok Airways being the only air company operating defined turbocorp flights to Koh Samui and Phuket.

U-tapao has been widely known to provide international charter flight services for airlines ferrying tourists mainly from independent states like Russia for their holiday in Pattaya.

The airport will act as Kan Air's alternative base after its Chiang Mai airport hub. This airport was once used by the US Air Force as a base for long-range B-52 Stratofortress bombing during the Vietnam War.

Domestic commercial flights from U-tapao are viewed as an unexploited market since most airways have ostracized its potential even though the airport is very close to Pattaya a major attraction for international tourists.

According to Somphong Sooksanguan, president of Kannithi Aviation Co. (Kan Air's operartor) has attributed the move to the arrival of a second ATR 72-500 turbocorp aeroplane equipped with about 60 seats.

This late program has yielded positive results with Kan Air offering four flights a week from U-tapao to the cities of Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani and three other flights a week to Chiang Mai.

The initial program crafted by Kan, is to offer a daily flight between two airports-Don Mueang and U-tapao making use of Kan Air's Hawker Beechcraft Premier I which a six-seat executive jet, before they can advance to their ATR 72-500.

Kan Air has assumed a rather belligerent set of prices to develop flights from U-tapao with vapid fares starting from 990 baht one way inclusive of a hot meal.

A more encouraging statement from Mr Somphong says that Kan Air has plans to extend their services out of U-tapao to Hat Yai, Phuket, and Surat Thani later in 2015.
