On January 24th, Thai AirAsia has launched its third hub in Thailand, in Chiang Mai hub, with new daily direct flights to Hat Yai and Singapore.

The first flight from Chiang Mai to Hat Yai was sold out, and the inaugural Chiang Mai to Singapore flight saw more than 80 per cent of seats full.

According to Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, the introduction of the Chiang Mai to Singapore route would allow travelers from Singapore to reach Chiang Mai in two hours and 50 minutes without the hassle of having to transit in Bangkok.

SilkAir also operates four flights per week from Chiang Mai to Singapore.

This news comes just a month after Thai AirAsia launched a four times weekly service between Bali and Phuket (its 2nd hub in Thailand) on 17th December 2010. Its main hub in the country is Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Meanwhile, in its further expansion plans, the Thai Low Cost Carrier has taken delivery of its 20th Airbus A320 this week. It also plans to launch a Bangkok to Hangzhou service next month.
