Sakon Nakhon Airport is a regional domestic airport located in Sakon Nakhon province that accommodates both military and civil flights. It is currently served by two low-cost carriers, namely Nok Air and Thai AirAsia. Both airlines fly 28 times from the airport to Bangkok via Don Muang International Airport.
Sakon Nakhon Airport is operated by the government of Thailand through the Department of Airports (DOA).
In 2018, the Airports of Thailand (AOT) - operator of Thailand’s six international airports - set aside 228 billion baht last year, a portion of which will be used for the creation of two new flight hubs and the expansion of four existing airports operated by the DOA. Sakon Nakhon Airport will be one of the airports to receive funding for development and be transferred to the AOT management.
Passengers flying to Sakon Nakhon Airport can have the option to rent a car. While this is not budget-friendly, it is, however, a convenient transportation mode. One of the companies with car rental services from the airport is United States-based Avis.
Taxis are available at Sakon Nakhon Airport, but passengers should prepare to negotiate with drivers for the fare. Taxi cabs have meters but are not often in use. The fare to the city center should cost at least 100 baht.
Sakon Nakhon Airport is not huge in size but it offers facilities that would serve the basic needs of passengers. Among its facilities are ATMs, car-rental booths, restrooms, and a waiting area.
