The operator of the railway linking Suvarnabhumi Airport and Bangkok downtown is set to offer discounted fares beginning next month.
Airport Rail Link President Suthep Panpeng said that the company will offer a discount of 40 percent to passengers during off-peak hours such as 5:30 am to 7 am; 9 am to 5 pm, and 8 pm to midnight, to encourage the use of public transportation.
The discounted tickets will only be applied to adult prepaid cards which can be purchased for 230 baht.
“The fare reduction measure will have a trial period of three months,” Panpeng said. “Passengers traveling one station will be charged 15 baht, 20 baht for two stations, and 25 baht for three stations and above,” he added.
Panpeng said the initiative is expected to raise the number of ridership by 5 to 10 percent.
